Fresh Oil for Your Lamp (3min)

Article by Jerame Nelson

God wants to raise up an entire generation who are shining lamps for His glory. I believe the only way we can burn bright for God is to steward intimacy with Him.

“The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all the inner depths of his heart.” Proverbs 20:27 NKJV

Many places in the Bible talk about lamps. Jesus describes John the Baptist as a bright and shining lamp who attracted people for a specific season.

“John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.” John 5:35 NIV

Like John the Baptist, we’re here to bring light to the darkness. We’re here to release the Kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven. God wants to anoint you to release light wherever you go. When you prophesy, when you pray for the sick, when you lay hands on people and they get healed, you begin to shine brightly. You dispel darkness.

In Matthew 25, we find the parable of the ten virgins. They each take lamps to meet the bridegroom. Five of the virgins are foolish because they don’t take any oil. Five are wise and take oil in jars along with their lamps. The five foolish ones go to purchase more oil.

“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.” Matthew 25:10 NIV

The reason why five of the virgins were shut out was because they were lazy. They didn’t pay the price for the oil.

How do you receive the oil? You spend time in God’s presence. When you live a lifestyle of intimacy with God, you pull on heaven and receive costly oil. This oil fuels your lamp, your spirit man, so that you can shine for Jesus.

You don’t have to work things up when the anointing of God rests on your life. Breakthrough is something you carry— not something you pray to receive.  I’m excited because I believe God wants to release fresh oil and anointing of fire. I pray that God will give you a holy hunger for His word and His presence, an insatiable hunger to spend time with Him.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105 NIV

Receive this prayer: Father, I pray that you will raise up a generation of burning ones, those who like John the Baptist will be bright and shining lamps. That they would walk with You, talk with You and reveal the light of Your glory everywhere they go. When they speak your Word and speak the love of God to people, let it be like a shining light to guide them in their path—that they would inherit salvation and freedom for many. In Jesus’ name.
