Reclaim these 3 Gifts Stolen in the Garden (3min)

Article by Jerame Nelson

In the Garden of Eden, the enemy stole three gifts given to Adam and Eve. The good news is we already have access to all three through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Let’s reclaim what is ours through Jesus!

1. Intimacy with God

Before Adam and Eve bit into the forbidden fruit, they were in daily fellowship with God. They would walk with Him in the cool of the day. They could hear His voice. Adam and Eve were talking and walking with God. Then in a moment, because of their sinful nature, they lost that gift. Sinful nature robbed their confidence to stand before the Lord. After they bit that fruit, Adam and Eve fell into an understanding that they were naked and they clothed themselves with fig leaves. Fig leaves represent the act of clothing yourself with shame or letting your sin define who you are. In Jesus, we are restored to our place of intimacy with the Father.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2 NIV

2. Authority

Not only did Adam and Eve lose the place of encounter and intimacy with God, they lost their authority.

“Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26 NIV

Adam and Eve had a mandate to subdue, multiply and take dominion over all of creation. God made man in the likeness of God, not in the likeness of sinful nature. When the serpent came to deceive Adam and Eve, they lost that dominion. We lost that authority until the “second Adam,” Jesus Christ, came.

For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:3-4 NIV

3. Dual-Nature

God created Adam out of the dust of the Earth and He breathed His breath into him. Adam was created in the image of God with five physical senses and five spiritual senses. God made Adam with the ability to live in two worlds at once- to live and have dominion on the Earth but to simultaneously be connected with God in the heavenly realm. Man had the ability to hear and fellowship with God, to daily encounter and interact with Him. God told Adam that his one job was to tend to the garden.

God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Eden means a place of pleasure and delight. When Adam sinned His dual-nature plunged into the darkness. He didn’t lose the gifting and ability to hear God, but He lost the ability to walk with God in the cool of the day and to encounter God with confidence. When Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead, He restored that place of pleasure and delight. He also restored the dual-nature of living on earth while also being able to fellowship with God.

After Jesus came, He revealed that man had to be born again.

“Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.” John 3:5 NIV

Being born of water is a natural birth, but being born of the spirit is a supernatural rebirth. When Jesus makes His home in your heart, it pushes the reset button on that Eden life! Now, we have access to God once again like Adam did at the beginning.

Keep It Simple…

You were created to walk in fellowship with God, to live heaven on earth and walk in intimacy with the Father. When you receive a spiritual rebirth, you will walk in authority with Jesus, the One who conquered sin, death and the grave. It’s all about intimacy with Jesus! When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you have access to take what was stolen in the garden and walk in the Father’s pleasure!
