The 7 Spirits of God (6min)

Article by Jerame Nelson

Join me as we demystify the seven spirits of God in Isaiah 11:2:

“The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord” Isaiah 11:2 NIV

The Spirit of God is a mystery to many. In Revelation 1:4, we see a different picture of the Holy Spirit. John the Beloved sees the Father who sits on the throne and in the midst of the throne are the seven spirits of God:

John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne,” Revelation 1:4 NIV

I believe our generation needs the spirit of God to rest on us to break the yoke of bondage, sickness, disease, fear and anxiety. The game plan is the same plan that Jesus had: the Holy Spirit!

  1. The Spirit of the Lord

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18 NIV

The Holy Spirit is in us for us and the Holy Spirit is upon us for others. God wants to anoint us with the Holy Spirit! He wants the anointing of God to rest upon us. When we spend time with Holy Spirit, it produces fruit and His anointing and livelihood rubs off and rests upon us.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.” 1 John 2:20 NIV

If you’re faithful to steward your relationship with the Holy Spirit, the rest of the seven spirits will begin to open up to you!

2. Spirit of Wisdom

Jesus walked in supernatural wisdom. Wisdom is applying knowledge at the right time in the right way. I remember one time I was in England preaching and as I was ministering, God gave me a word of knowledge that He wanted to heal a deaf ear. When I released the word of knowledge, the man responded. He was very upset, yelling and saying he didn’t believe. I felt the wisdom of God come and He said, “I don’t want you to lay hands on him, I want you to sing the song of the Lord over him.” While I sang, his ear popped open. He was delivered from a spirit of unbelief in that moment of healing. He repented and said “I believe!”

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,” Ephesians 1:17-18 NIV

God wants to open up your eyes and give you wisdom and understanding. When you follow His wisdom and obey, it releases breakthrough every. single. time.

3. Spirit of Understanding (Revelation)

“To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.” Daniel 1:17 NIV

Daniel is one of the most amazing examples of the spirit of understanding resting upon an individual. He was so anointed with the Holy Ghost and revelation that he had the understanding of all mysteries, dreams and visions. Not only did Daniel tell the king his own dream, he saved all of the wise men of his day because he had an encounter with the wisdom and revelation of God.

Wisdom and revelation operate together. They open the eyes of your heart with revelatory light. Revelation is heart knowledge. It surpasses head knowledge. When you walk in the spirit of understanding, you will begin to understand the voice of God, dreams and prophetic visions.

If you want to walk in revelation the requirement is purity.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8 NIV

 How did Daniel get anointed?

“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.” Daniel 1:8 NIV

Daniel had a no-compromising spirit and the scriptures say he was ten times better than the wise men of his day!

“In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.” Daniel 1:20 NIV

Imagine if the church began to rise up with an anointing and wisdom ten time greater than the world? God wants to anoint you, your family and your business to carry the spirit of wisdom and revelation!

4. Spirit of Counsel

“Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” John 5:19 NIV

When Jesus spent time with the Father in prayer, He received counsel and then walked in the blueprints of the Father. If we wait on the Lord, He will give us strength and strategy. The counsel of God is the voice of God, or the blueprints of heaven made known to man.

God gave the plans for Noah to build the ark according to His pattern. God gave Moses the blueprint to build a tabernacle. God wants to do the same for you. He wants to give you His blueprint for what you’re called to do and where you’re called to go. When you follow His strategy, His power shows up.

5. Spirit of Might

Jesus walked in the might of God. Every time someone asked to be healed in the scriptures, Jesus healed them. There were some cases were every single person He would touch or be around would be healed. Sometimes he would only pray for one person and the whole city would hear the news.

Samson was anointed with might.

Samson went down to Timnah together with his father and mother. As they approached the vineyards of Timnah, suddenly a young lion came roaring toward him. The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he told neither his father nor his mother what he had done.” Judges 14:5-6 NIV

The spirit of might and counsel work hand in hand. When you walk in the counsel of God, you will walk in His power. When you see the devil as he really is, a little lion with no power, you can rip him to shreds with the might of God.

6. Spirit of Knowledge

Everywhere He went, Jesus was carrying the spirit of knowledge. When Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well one word of knowledge, the whole village was touched by the power of God. I believe God wants to anoint a generation with the spirit of knowledge.

“Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits” Daniel 11:32 NKJV

When the spirit of knowledge flows strong in our Fire and Glory Outpouring meetings, people know that they are known by God and it ushers in the fear of the Lord.

7. Spirit of the Fear of the Lord

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him.” Psalm 33:8 NIV

The fear of the Lord is a healthy worshipful awe of who God is in your life. It’s when you are so in love with the Father that you don’t want to do anything that will hurt His heart. When you walk in the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, it releases conviction through you and to you.

On the day of Pentecost, Peter released the knowledge of Jesus.

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Acts 2:37 NIV

When Peter released the gospel, their hearts were cut with conviction and with the spirit of the Fear of the Lord was released.

Keep It Simple…

Steward your intimacy with the Holy Spirit and you will begin your journey of walking in the seven spirits of the Lord, just like Jesus did!
