3 Mindsets to Walk in Honor (4min)

Article by Jerame Nelson

I believe right now is a critical time to allow honor to flow through your life! We’re living in a generation where dishonor is so normal. It’s popular to constantly knock each other down. Just look at the news, in social media, in gossip. People are making each other look way worse than they are. It’s time that the church rises up and begins to honor one another in love.

Check out Jerame’s message “Honor in the Kingdom” from Night 1296 of the Fire and Glory Outpouring!

Let’s look at Numbers 12. Moses is being dishonored by his siblings, Miriam and Aaron. They get familiar with the anointing of God on Moses’ life. They compare their anointing and talk trash about how he married an Ethiopian. Right then, God Himself comes down to defend his friend, Moses.

Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them stepped forward, he said, “Listen to my words:

“When there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”

The anger of the Lord burned against them, and he left them.

When the cloud lifted from above the tent, Miriam’s skin was leprous —it became as white as snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had a defiling skin disease

Numbers 12:5-15 NIV

Mindset #1: Dishonor is like spiritual leprosy

Just like leprosy kills the nerve endings before it kills the flesh, the spirit of dishonor numbs a generation’s heart so that they can’t feel when they are bringing pain and hurting one another. They can’t feel God’s love for those around them and they begin to do what so many are doing in this day- they cut others down. How often do we come against those who think differently than us? We need to look for the gold instead of focusing on the dirt.

Cut off dishonor. It’s contagious.

God made Miriam stay outside for seven days. When there’s a serious spirit of dishonor, put them out of your life for a season so they don’t defile you. Like leprosy, dishonor is contagious. You don’t want it to spread throughout the camp.

If you have been walking in dishonor, check this out:  God shows His mercy to Miriam and she becomes clean and returns to the camp. Repent and make a change. His mercy triumphs over judgement!

Mindset #2: When you honor God’s anointing on others, the anointing of God will flow into your life.

David honored God’s anointing on King Saul and became one who walked in God’s anointing. In 1 Samuel 24, David has the opportunity to defeat King Saul. He chooses to just cut off a corner of his robe and look at his reaction:

Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.” With these words David sharply rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way.”

1 Samuel 24:5-7 NIV

David could have taken Saul out in the cave. His men were cheering him on, but He was convicted. David chose not to give into man’s way. He did it God’s way, in honor and in His timing.

Mindset #3: Honor those who have gone before.

I recognize the people who took the time to pour into my life, the mamas and papas. I learned how to honor, sow into them and steward relationships. Learn how to steward the relationship you have and the ones who went before. When you honor God’s Generals, you honor God and then God will honor you. I encourage you to listen to teachings from God’s Generals and the moves of God in history! Read books and study them. Honor what He’s done in the past to move into what He’s doing in the future.

Keep It Simple…

The greatest one we honor is Jesus! When we honor others, we honor Him. Dishonor is like spiritual leprosy - its root defiles the entire body, brings spiritual numbness, and blocks life from flowing in your life. The good news is, repentance can break these chains and bring in redemption and restoration of what was lost. Ask God to search your heart and reveal any roots of dishonor or bitterness.
