How Do I Spend Time with God? (3min)
Article by Jerame Nelson
You hear us constantly reminding you to spend time with Jesus and develop your intimacy with Him! Here’s how! I want to share with you four practical ways to spend time with God:
1. Meditate on God’s Word
Just like you and I need to eat food to stay alive, we need to read the Bible to keep our spirits alive and connected to Jesus! Get your meals in. Not just once, read the Word throughout the day. Read it on your break at work, at home, at lunch, right before you sleep, when you wake up! The Bible reveals the promises of God. It reveals to us our inheritance.
If we are not in His word, we are limited. God wants us to live in intimacy with Him and move in the power of God. He wants us to live from the place where Heaven invades Earth. We will never truly step into that anointing unless we learn how to study the Word of God.
Meditation brings revelation and revelation brings manifestation.
If you want to work in miracles, read all about the miracles in the Bible. Study Revelation 4 and 5 if you want to see in the Spirit. Read Daniel 7, Ezekiel 1 and all the places in the Bible where you see the throne room of Heaven. Discover how the Word describes these beautiful places. As you begin to study and meditate on those things, the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal those things to you as you spend time with Him. He will even give you revelation of theses places as you dream.
2. Intimacy with Jesus
Did you know that you can spend time with each one of the Godhead? God, Jesus and Holy Spirit are all One in the Trinity and we have the privilege to honor and develop intimacy with each of them.
“I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” John 10:9 NASB
Jesus is the Door. He gives us access to encounter the Father. I spend time with Jesus all the time. When I read about Jesus in the Bible, I begin to learn who He is. I am getting to the place when I can discern when Jesus shows up in meetings where I preach or when I’m praying at home, because I am constantly learning who He is in the Word of God. Jesus is closer than a brother and at the same time Jesus is our King. We can’t become familiar with Him as our buddy, Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. When Jesus shows up, I have learned that the majesty of Christ is present. The fear of the Lord comes into the room. We need to learn how to give Jesus His rightful place and worship Him. When was the last time you were face down in your living room giving Jesus the first place, the throne in every area of your life? Holy moments happen when Jesus is present.
3. Intimacy with Holy Spirit
Did you know that you can talk to the spirit of God? Holy Spirit is a co-equal with the Father and the Son. They are all three but they are one. The Father is in heaven, Jesus is at the right hand. Jesus sent Holy Spirit as the Comforter. He is the One who reveals the Word to us. He is more than just goosebumps and tickles, Holy Spirit is a person and He wants to be with you. We need to develop quiet time with Him where we wait.
Develop Isaiah 50:4 as you develop intimacy with Holy Spirit:
“The Lord God has given Me the tongue of disciples, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. God wants you to become sensitive to His presence.”
Make time for the Holy Spirit. You will notice that the more time you give to Him to speak, the more He begins to manifest.
4. Intimacy with God the Father
The Father wants to love on you as His son and daughter. Did you know that He loves to give you good gifts? Many times when He is saying, “Jerame, I love you. I love you. I’m proud of you,” I begin to melt and I recognize the Father’s love. God wants you to experience His love and His kindness. The Father also comes at times to bring correction so that we can mature as His sons.
It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Hebrews 12:7-8 NASB
If the only thing that you hear from God is the stuff you want to hear, you are probably not hearing the fullness of the Father. The more you spend time with Him, the more you will recognize His heart for you.
Keep It Simple…
Jump in the Word throughout your day and make time for the King of Kings today. I pray that you will be blessed to discern Jesus, Holy Spirit and Father God all throughout your days!
